Q: Welcome to Beyond the Books, Eve. Can we start out by telling us whether you are published for the first time or are you multi-published?

This is my first book.

Q: When you were published for the first time, which route did you go – mainstream, small press, vanity published or self-published and why or how did you choose this route?

I self-published. I wanted control of everything – the colors, the layout, the angel portraits. And I didn’t want to go through the submission and rejection routine. (Naturally, what I was really worried about was never being accepted at all through traditional publishing!) As a prodigious reader, I loved Amazon and the thought of having my book on Amazon was irresistible!

Q: How long did it take you to get published once you signed the contract?

Self-publishing is very quick, it was done in a few weeks. I have held up final publishing for months longer with revisions, rewrites, and wanting to add one more thing.

Q: How did it make you feel to become published for the first time and how did you celebrate?

It was lovely to actually see it for the first time. I had a dinner with close friends.

Q: What was the first thing you did as for as promotion when you were published for the first time?

I contacted Dorothy Thompson at Pump Up Your book for help. I read a lot about book promotion, but I find that marketing is not one of my natural skills (sounds of laughter). I knew I needed help!

Q: What has surprised or amazed you about the publishing industry as a whole?

The most amazing things are how independent authors are promoting their books, the instant availability and advertising on Amazon, and the many book blogs replacing book tours.

Q: What is the most rewarding thing about being a published author?

I made my book in a gift book style – so the cover is pretty.   It has been fun to add it to my website and Facebook. I will have a better story about the rewards, when my book has been out longer.

Q: Any final words for writers who dream of being published one day?

A favorite quote – Never give up on something that you can’t go a day without thinking about. Unknown.

Thank you!

Eve Picquette
